In applying Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), a company makes conscious choices to find the right balance between the economic, social and environmental aspects of all internal and external business activities. Bouwfonds REIM’s mission statement is derived from the group’s general mission, but gives particular emphasis to the CSR aspect: “Bouwfonds REIM supports its clients in realising their ambitions with both traditional and innovative, sustainable products that are managed internally or externally on the basis of the best-in-class principle. Bouwfonds REIM is convinced of the growing importance of sustainability in terms of being able to offer investors a good return compared to the market”.
Bouwfonds REIM has formulated its ambition as regards CSR: to strive for an above-average sustainability score on the basis of the best-in-class principle. Via this principle, Bouwfonds REIM wants to contribute to the CSR ambition of Rabo Real Estate Group, to be one of the top 3 of the most socially responsible real estate companies in the Netherlands as well as in the other core countries. In this regard, sustainability is always balanced against return.
CSR charter
In order to be able to fulfil its CSR ambition, Rabo Real Estate Group’s Board of Directors adopted a CSR charter, which is based on four elements: sustainable real estate, ethical business practices, responsible operations and social commitment. Further details have been provided as to what each of these elements entails and what the key aspects comprise of. Within the framework set out in the charter, divisional management is responsible for interpreting these elements according to the specific situation and to implement them within the organisation. Within Bouwfonds REIM, the CSR manager coordinates this process in close cooperation with specialists in the product lines.
